“The media-mistake!”

It all happened when I was in std.6.Our school drawing  teacher  announced in the morning assembly  about  the  ROTRACT CLUB  of Deonar which was organizing X-pressions an art and literary competition on February 12,2006 at Anushakti Nagar, School no.4. Our teacher said around 3000 students from Chembur, Ghatkopar and Navi Mumbai were participating in the event.

Passionate about drawing and painting I decided to participate in the competition. There were many kinds of competitions painting, sketching, face painting, mehendi, pot designing….etc etc etc…I decided to participate in painting competition. Topic was going to be given on the spot. I went home and asked my mother about it, she willingly said yes I was very happy. But before that we had a competition in our school the teacher was going to shortlist two girls from junior section and two from senior section for the inter school competition. I was bit worried about this part. We had the competition in our school on 10Th February. In junior section there were around 35 girls who were participating. Luckily I got selected..!!! :D
I was extremely happy! We had to draw and paint a memory drawing on some topic! I don’t remember the topic now…but I got selected and being selected from 35 girls was a great deal for me!
Finally the day arrived “12Th February”. I was all ready for the competition but stressed too at the same time seeing so many participants! The volunteer in the class wrote the topic on the green board. “SAVE OUR EARTH” For about 15 minutes I thought about the topic…starting somehow, I drew our mother earth. Trying to make it in cartoon style I drew hands and legs, depressed eyes, head covered with bandages, I drew our earth being admitted in the hospital on a bed with saline on..hehehe.. I wonder what made me think that way!! To make it look more painful I drew tears rolling from the eyes and painted the earth in green and blue resembling greenery and water and some drops of blood in red colour! That was all I could think of!
After around two days my mother read it in the newspaper MID-DAY-METRO that I won first prize in that painting competition. She showed me the newspaper I was happy but the only thing that disappointed me was the photograph printed in the newspaper besides my name. That wasn’t me! :( , she was the other girl from our school who came along with me for the competition from the junior section…L L

At that age I felt bad, very bad that hitting the newspaper for the first time my photograph wasn’t placed…My mother consoled me saying along with your name you made the girl famous who didn’t win the prize…for following two-three days I continued to think about it but as time passed I overcame it..:) And that was the little media-mistake!!
                                                         Best regards,
                                                                        Jueeli
